What’s The Best Time to Exercise?
This is probably one of the most debatable topics for fitness enthusiasts – what is the best time to workout, morning or evening? According to a study conducted by Harvard University, it’s in the evening when we get best results out of our workout.
The study was conducted on 28 healthy (normal blood pressure) individuals over a period of 240 hours. The study revealed that the circadian rhythm (biological process linked to our circadian / biological / body clock) is at its best in the late evening, especially around 9 p.m. as our body is programmed to stay awake in the day and rest at night. This means a specific exercise, when performed in the evening, gives better results as compared to what it would otherwise have if performed in the morning. The report also says that since our blood pressure is higher in the evening, we are more likely to engage in cardiovascular workouts which results in more calories burnt and a healthier heart.
Our Take - Whatever the study says, it is always advisable to stick to your current routine. A sudden change in routine can completely derail your entire workout schedule. To create a schedule, a lot of practical things like our study / work timings, gym timings, our workout companions, weather conditions etc. should be taken into account. Therefore, the best time for the workout is what suits YOU the best.
